Visiting Mizuno
On June 6th our class visited the headquarters of
the Mizuno Corporation. Mizuno is most famous in America for making shoes and
sports uniforms, but during our visit we learned that they do much more than
that. Mizuno is very important in the history of sports.
Mizuno was founded by Rihachi Mizuno in 1906. Mizuno-san
loved baseball, so he started out making custom uniforms and selling baseballs.
From there, he dedicated his company to using Japanese artistry to making the
very best sporting goods available. In 1934 Mizuno changed the history of
baseball when they developed the world’s first catcher’s mitt. Today,
infielders all having different styles of glove is because of Mizuno’s
influence. Mizuno was also the first company to make golf clubs in Japan, and
created the first ever Titanium golf clubs.
Mizuno Rihachi is famous for saying 「
Go and make something great. Today the Mizuno Corporation does this not only
tries to make great products but tries to make people better as well. In their
museum we saw new prototypes designed to help people run faster and jump
higher. We also learned about their new Move Suits. Sharp looking formalwear
that allows athletes like L.A. Dodger’s pitcher Kenta Maeda move freely enough
to throw full speed pitches.
We finished our visit by having a traditional Japanese lunch
in the company’s cafeteria. I ordered Unagi and tried some of the tonkatsu. In
conclusion our visit to Mizuno Headquarters was very fun and interesting. I
would very much like to work for a company like them in the future.
